What Documents Do I Need?

Pick your loan type and how your business is registered, and get a plain-English checklist of exactly what a lender will ask for. Tick it off, print it, or get it on WhatsApp.

Loan documentation is confusing because it is written for bankers, not for the people who have to produce it. Pick your loan and how you are registered, and this gives you a plain-English list you can actually work from.

Step 1 — What are you applying for?

Step 2 — Who is applying?

18 documents for a business loan as a self-employed professional

About you 4
  • For a company or firm, the entity PAN as well as the PAN of each director or partner.

  • The name on Aadhaar should match PAN. A mismatch is one of the most common causes of delay.

  • Electricity bill, rent agreement, passport or voter ID. It must match the address you put on the application.

  • Recent, plain background. Some lenders still want physical copies.

About the business 6
  • If you are registered. If you are not, say so early — it changes which lenders can look at the file.

  • Free to obtain and takes about a day. Worth having even if no lender has asked for it yet.

  • Utility bill, rent agreement, trade licence or shop and establishment certificate.

  • The oldest of your GST certificate, Udyam registration, trade licence or first ITR usually does this.

  • Degree certificate and, where applicable, the registration or practice certificate — medical council, bar council, ICAI and so on.

  • Clinic or office registration, or the professional body membership certificate.

Money 5
  • All current accounts the business uses. This is the document a lender reads first — download the PDF from net banking rather than scanning a printout, and do not remove any pages.

  • Filed returns, with the acknowledgement. An unfiled or late return will hold the file up.

  • Audited where audit applies. For a small proprietorship, the computation attached to the ITR is often enough.

  • Your monthly GST summary return. Lenders compare this against your bank credits, so the two should tell the same story.

  • Plus the latest statement or repayment schedule for each. Hiding an existing loan never works — it shows on the credit report.

Sometimes asked for 3
  • Some lenders ask for this to understand concentration risk. A simple typed list is fine.

  • If the money is for a specific machine or asset.

  • For working capital facilities above roughly ₹50 lakh.

Actual documents vary by lender and by your profile. Your advisor will confirm the exact list before anything is submitted.

Three things that cause almost every delay

  • Bank statements in the wrong format. Download the PDF from net banking. A scanned printout, a photograph, or an Excel export is frequently rejected, and you will be asked again — losing a week.
  • Addresses that do not match. Your GST certificate, your Udyam registration, your bank records and your utility bill should all say the same thing. When they do not, someone has to explain why, and files slow down while that happens.
  • An existing loan not mentioned. It will show on the credit report anyway. Disclosing it upfront is neutral; discovering it later damages the file.

Get it right the first time

The single most useful thing you can do before applying anywhere is to assemble the complete set. A complete file at a lender who is a reasonable fit will beat an incomplete file at a perfect fit almost every time, because incomplete files get put down and picked up again while complete ones move.

Not sure where you stand?

Ask the Transakt assistant. It can work out your EMI, give an indicative range and tell you what a lender will want to see — without asking for your number.

Do I need to upload documents on this website?

No, and you never will. This website does not accept document uploads and does not ask for your PAN or Aadhaar. Documents move through your advisor over a secure channel, after a conversation, when there is a reason for it.

How recent do bank statements need to be?

Usually the last twelve months for a business loan and six months for a salaried applicant, up to the most recent completed month. If your application takes several weeks, expect to be asked for an updated statement before disbursement.

What if I do not have audited financials?

For a small proprietorship, the computation of income attached to your ITR is often enough. Audit requirements depend on your turnover and constitution — your CA will know. Tell your advisor early so the file goes to a lender comfortable with it.

Will the lender ask for more than this list?

Sometimes. This covers what is asked for in the great majority of cases, and lenders add requests based on your specific profile. The list will not shrink, so assembling everything here first is never wasted effort.
